Australian Customs Requirements
Personal Effects
Provided you have permanent residency or you are a returning Australian or a New Zealand passport holder, you can import your personal effects duty and sales tax free as long as you have owned and used them for more than one year prior to your departure for Australia.
There is no duty free or tax free allowance for alcohol with unaccompanied effects even if wine is part of a cellar collection.
To clear your goods through Australian Customs you will need to fill out a Customs form B534 and photocopy all pages of your passport. This can be done either in Australia or New Zealand.
Motor Vehicles
Unless a motor vehicle has been exported from Australia and proof can be obtained of this, it will be subject to sales tax and duty.
A permit will be required for importation unless previously owned in Australia, this is obtainable from The Federal Transport Authority in Canberra.

Trailers and Boats
You can import duty and tax free up to one boat and one trailer/caravan on the basis of one per family per 3 years as long as you have owned and used for at least one year prior to your departure to Australia.

Trailers and caravans require permits to import from the Federal Transport Authority in Canberra.

Useful Tips
- Steam clean and vacuum motor vehicles and trailers
- Empty vacuum cleaner bag
- Clean garden tools, tent pegs, golf clubs, shoes and bicycle wheels
- Do not import dried flowers
- It is better to leave food behind. Please contact us if you have to take it.
- Cane wear is subject to inspection as is all wooden furniture. If there are signs of infestation, treat or do not send.
